Setting up a drug development spin off in the Czech academic reality
Starting a company is never a straight line, and the story of CasInvent Pharma proves it. In my talk, I will take you behind the scene of how we turned academic research into a biotech spin-off, navigating both the hurdles and the breakthroughs along the way. I’ll share the lessons we learned, from regulatory puzzles to investor negotiations. Join me to see how ideas become companies—and how vision becomes reality.

Drug development and technology transfer
Development of novel therapeutic agents rely on advances of basic science. There exist different routes how the result of academia research can be transferred to a commercial product. These transfers contain always a large portion of risk and the risk is even elevated if the early development is not handled properly. The basic principles of early development will be described and some examples will be presented.

Intellectual property protection
The research & development outputs are in most cases a valuable source of intangible assets. We call those intellectual property. Even when conducting basic research, intellectual property must be carefully protected from the outset. There are some necessary formal steps on the part of a researcher as well as on the part of an institution that must be followed to protect the intellectual property in a correct way. Also, some aspect of patent protection should not be unmissable for researchers and a basic overview of patent protection is always good to be mentioned.
